I traveled to Namibia in April 2017 to study and collect Welwitschia bugs in their native habitat. The trip covered about 3,500 miles (5,000 km) in total.
I've been studying the gut bacteria of firebugs (Heteroptera: Pyrrhocoridae) since 2015. These are some pics of my time working with these charismatic insects.
I got my start in insect symbioses in Kerry Oliver's lab at the University of Georgia. I ended up focusing on symbiotic and genetic contributions to variation in pea aphid resistance to multiple parasitoid wasps. I also studied how aphid resistance affected the development of these wasps.
I traveled to Maui and Molokai in March 2015 with Luis Cayetano-Simmari to collect aphids and encountered beautiful scenery and lots of critters!
During my undergraduate studies at Oregon State University, I had a few wonderful projects that I worked on at the Oregon State Arthropod Collection (OSAC). I made photographic collections of Carabidae beetles of the HJ Andrews Experimental Forest and also the Cicadidae of North America. Of course, I also took advantage of the photographic equipment to take some of the pictures below.
